It’s About God’s Plan, Not the Man: Trusting God's Plan for Love

t’s so easy to get caught up in our desires, isn’t it? Especially when it comes to love, marriage, and all the dreams we carry deep inside our hearts. There’s nothing wrong with those desires — God Himself promises to give us the desires of our heart. But somewhere along the way, it’s possible to lose sight of what truly matters: trusting God’s plan for love. When we shift our focus from chasing timelines to seeking His purpose, peace begins to take root again.

Sometimes we can spend so much time writing lists, thinking about what we want in a future husband — what he looks like, how he behaves, what kind of job he has — that we forget to ask a much bigger question: What is God’s plan for my life? Because when we understand that, everything else starts to align.

It’s not about abandoning your hope for marriage. It’s about putting it into the right hands — the hands of the One who knows exactly what (and who) you need.

The problem with attraction alone

There’s this phrase I once heard: purpose over attraction. It stuck with me, because attraction alone can be a trap. It’s not that attraction is wrong — it’s part of how God designed us! But if attraction becomes the driving force behind our choices, we can easily miss the man God has chosen — the one who fits His purpose, not just our preferences.

When we’re guided by the Holy Spirit, we start to look beyond surface attraction and see through the lens of God’s will. We start asking, Lord, what are You building in me right now? What kind of person are You preparing me to become? And who are You preparing for me — not just to make me happy, but to help fulfill Your purpose on earth?

Marriage was never designed just to make us comfortable; it was designed to make us more like Christ. That’s what makes it so powerful — and also why it can’t be built on looks, lists, or chemistry alone.

God’s purpose is bigger than your plan

Maybe you’ve had moments where you thought you’d figured it out — you met someone, it seemed right, and then it fell apart. Or maybe you’ve been waiting for years and wondering why nothing seems to move forward. It’s in those times we have to remind ourselves: God’s plan is bigger than my plan.

He sees what we can’t. He knows what would lead us closer to Him — and what might pull us away.

So instead of asking, “When will I meet him?” start asking, “Lord, what do You want me to do with this season?”

Because this season of waiting isn’t wasted. It’s shaping you, strengthening your faith, and preparing you for the kind of love that’s rooted in purpose.

The truth is, your story isn’t on pause. You are already walking out God’s plan — right here, right now. The waiting isn’t punishment; it’s preparation.

The kind of man God chooses

When you surrender your love life to God, you’re not giving up control — you’re placing your trust in divine design. And when God chooses a man for you, it’s not random. It’s intentional.

The man God brings will align with the calling on your life. He’ll strengthen your walk with the Lord, not distract you from it. He’ll pray with you, lead with humility, and see your purpose as part of his.

That’s why it’s not about chasing a man; it’s about chasing God — because when you do, you’ll find the right person running beside you in the same direction.

It’s not about finding someone who ticks every box, but someone who fits into God’s bigger picture for both of you. You’ll look back one day and see that every closed door, every delay, and every heartbreak was leading you exactly where you needed to be.

Living with purpose while you wait

So how do you live this out in real life? You live purposefully. You keep building your faith, your gifts, your calling. You walk in obedience, even when it’s quiet. You keep showing up to the things God’s asked you to do.

When you do that, you’re not standing still — you’re walking in purpose. And that’s the best place to be found. Because God doesn’t hide His blessings from us; He hides them for us — in the place where we’re aligned with His will.

So yes, it’s about God’s plan, not the man. But when you make that your focus, something beautiful happens: you end up finding both — the plan and the man — perfectly wrapped in God’s timing.
